ESL Spain had the privilege of hosting two League of Legends tournaments - the Major ESL Arena final and the ESL MWC Challenge - as well as multiple business and networking panels at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last week. 75,000 viewers tuned into the broadcast on Twitch, but if you missed out on the event, you can catch up on everything right here!

Major ESL Arena final

Team SalsaLoL and Over Gaming, two of Spain’s best League of Legends teams, clashed in Barcelona last Wednesday, dueling for the €3,000 Major ESL Arena winner’s prize. SalsaLoL, without their 16 year old AD Carry NiXERiN0, reached out the Atlantic eSports’ Ladooscuro as a stand-in and didn’t miss a step! Over Gaming had shown strong performances in the past but were outclassed by SalsaLoL on this occasion, who ended up taking the series 2-0 in their favor and cementing themselves as the Major ESL Arena champions!

ESL MWC Challenge

The next highlight of the event was the showdown between xPeke and ocelote’s teams, Origen and Gamers2 respectively. €12,000 was on the line for the teams of two of the most recognizable Spanish League players, it also being a rematch from the first week of the Challenger Series. Origen won the series back then and got off to great start yet again this time around. In a back and forth game one, Origen managed to come out ahead in the all-important teamfights, which led them to an early 1-0 advantage in the series - a lead they would not end up giving away.

On the back of their strong performance in game one, Origen closed out the series in the decisive second game, not even giving Gamers2 a chance to mount a comeback. Their overwhelming control of the Rift proved too much for Gamers2, who had to yield the MWC Challenge title - and the €12,000 - to Origen.
