Furia has withdrawn from IEM Beijing-Haidian due to the roster currently being located in Europe. The New England Whalers are the team to replace Furia in the ESL Pro Tour event after recently jumping up in the World Rankings after their solid performance in IEM New York.
When Furia was invited to IEM Beijing-Haidian they had full intentions to return to the US and play as part of IEM Beijing-Haidian North American region, but due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions they have made the decision that they are better to remain in Europe for the time being.
With qualification already secured for the Intel Extreme Masters Global Challenge happening in December, the team will remain in Europe and prepare for their appearance at what is to be planned the first ESL Lan tournament since IEM Katowice 2020.
We support Furia in their decision and wish them the best with their time in Europe and look forward to seeing them competing in the IEM Global Challenge against other top teams such as Heroic who qualified just yesterday by winning the DreamHack Open Fall tournament.
The New England Whalers who were already confirmed to compete in the closed qualifier have now received a direct invite into the main event, whilst Rebirth and Springroll who were the runner up teams from the Open Qualifier will battle it out tonight at 21:30 EDT to claim the final closed qualifier spot.
