WCS America Season 2 wrapped up this weekend as eight of America’s best StarCraft II players battled it out in order to win $25,000 and the all-important 2000 WCS points. After a nail-biting seven game final, Pigbaby inched into the lead over one of the best Terran players in the world, Bomber. Here’s how the semifinals and finals matches panned out…

Bomber vs. Heart (TvT)

Having competed in every single WCS America thus far, Heart’s run this season was his most successful to date. Unfortunately he would have had to overcome Bomber in order to advance to the finals, a feat which proved too large for the Axiom player on the day. Bomber made short work of his fellow Terran in an unsurprising 3-1 victory.

Pigbaby vs. Hyun (PvZ)

Up until this season of WCS America, Pigbaby flew firmly under the radar. He had previously only competed in Premier League once before, and his journey ended in the RO32. His road to the semifinals was a long one indeed, having diligently played his way up from the Challenger Wildcard qualifier. If he had not beaten Taeja in the RO8 in a startling 3-0 victory, most would have expected the defending champion Hyun to take a dominating victory. Pigbaby once again shocked everyone when he advanced into the finals with a 3-1 victory.

Final: Pigbaby vs Bomber (PvT)

Despite having taken out two of the best StarCraft II players around, people might still have come into these finals thinking that a Terran victory would be in the bag. Consistent play and a wealth of experience might seem too much for up-and-comer Pigbaby to overcome. Alas the Terran hopefuls would not find a victor in Bomber. Both players brought out unheralded strategies, holding nothing back in their quest for the title. A Tempest rush from Pigbaby proved particularly effective and eventually he would take the trophy in the last game on Habitation Station.
