With only two weeks before the next CS:GO major at ESL One Cologne, we are pleased to present ESL’s CS:GO World Ranking. Based on results from tiers of tournaments and weightings of both players and teams, this new ranking system will bring together a massive amount of data that will be made available to CS:GO fans across the world.

Check out ESL’s CS:GO World Ranking!

Ulrich Schulze, VP of Pro Gaming at ESL, said of the system:

"As CS:GO begins to grow all over the globe, assessing a team's current rank becomes more and more difficult. We are introducing World Ranking in order to have a reliable public indicator of how well each team has done in CS:GO, and we are planning to use it for seeding and selection purposes in the future. With ranking being public and transparent, other organizers are welcome to use it for their tournaments as well."

With a full guide to how the rankings are created available, ESL’s World Ranking intends to have a very clear take on how to place teams. Points decay over time, and both players and teams score points so switches will be reflected. There will also be much more fine tuning to make sure the World Ranking can give you a good idea of how to place CS:GO teams from all over the world.

Besides allowing data to be easily shared with everyone interested, the World Ranking will also help make better seedings and drawings possible. Its first usage for one of ESL’s own tournaments will be the seeding before the group drawing of ESL One Cologne, and we will continue to use this ranking system whenever teams need to be divided in accordance with their recent performance.

The next event that provides ranking points will be Intel Extreme Masters gamescom, which will feature TSM and EnVyUs from the top six and CLG and mousesports from the top twelve.

Tune in from Wednesday to find out how this will change the rankings before ESL One Cologne!
