ESL One Frankfurt is now over but the memories of it will last for years to come. The world’s best Dota 2 teams traveled to Commerzbank Arena in Frankfurt, Germany, to battle it out for the ESL One championship and their share of the US$250,000+ prize pool. In the end, it was Team Secret who emerged victorious.
The event kicked off on Saturday, the 20th of June, with a set of quarterfinal matches. Three out of the four were decided in a decisive 2:0 fashion, with Invictus Gaming being the only team to drop a game before moving on to the semifinals.
The four victorious teams moved on to the semifinals which left no room for doubt in regard to who deserved to be in the grand final. Evil Geniuses took down Virtus.pro, while Team Secret defeated Invictus Gaming, with each match ending in a decisive 2:0.
In end, it all came down to Evil Geniuses and Team Secret who clashed in the battle for the ESL One championship title. Both teams definitely lived up to the hype and delivered a grand final worthy of the biggest Dota 2 event in Europe.
All of the grand final matches were intense and close calls. The teams were an even match, going back and forth in taking advantage. The first win went to Evil Geniuses who ended the game in an incredible team fight. The rest of the games were just as exciting with the result being unpredictable until the end. Nevertheless, it was Team Secret who emerged victorious in this clash of the titans and claimed the ESL One Frankfurt champion with three consecutive victories to close out the series 3-1.
